Overview

Booth Industries was selected as the major specialist door supplier for the landmark Crossrail (Elizabeth Line) project — one of the most ambitious infrastructure undertakings in the UK’s modern history. Across eight individual Crossrail projects, our team manufactured, supplied, and installed over 700 doors, including tunnel and cross-passage fire and security doors. This required flexibility in resources, expert project management, and the ability to meet challenging programme demands without compromising on quality or safety.

Project Challenges

Delivering a project of this scale came with complex technical and logistical challenges:
  • Variety & Uniqueness: Almost every door type was unique, yet still required full assurance and certification.
  • Performance Under Pressure: Doors were designed to withstand rigorous tunnel pressures across different station environments.
  • High Acoustic Ratings: Several stations, particularly those near residential areas, required doors achieving up to 53dB acoustic performance.
  • Specialised Ancillaries: Design, manufacture, and installation of bulkheads and supporting steelwork.
  • Confined Space Coordination: Seamless collaboration with other trades in restricted areas, while maintaining the highest Health & Safety standards.
  • Tight Installation Windows: Demanding schedules meant meticulous planning and sequencing.
  • Asset Protection: Ensuring all doors remained protected and fully compliant until handover.
  • Specialist Lifting Operations: Safe and precise lifting in both internal and external sensitive locations.
Example: 53dB acoustic doors installed at Level 3, Western Ticket Hall vent shaft, Bond Street Station.
