Booth Industries (Booth) has secured a new contract worth over £7.5 million to supply high-integrity steel doorsets for HS2’s Old Oak Common station. The Bolton-based business has also received a strategically important, multi-year contract, to maintain tunnel doors on the Elizabeth Line for Transport for London.
Both contracts come hot on the heels of a £4.5m pressure-rated fire door award for another phase of the HS2 project, which was awarded to Booth in January this year.
The contracts strengthen Booth’s position as a leading delivery partner for high-profile rail infrastructure projects around the world, bringing together design, engineering, manufacture, installation and maintenance expertise to deliver full life-cycle support.
Mike Jenkinson, managing director of Booth Industries, said: “These new contracts are great news for our business and recognise the wide range of expertise available at Booth.
“We are delighted that BBVS selected us for the HS2 work. This reflects the value placed on our unmatched design and manufacturing expertise that has been developed over decades and honed, more-recently, through our work for a variety of high-profile projects including Crossrail, the Northern Line extension and earlier phases of HS2.
“The TfL contract extension highlights the effectiveness of our maintenance offer, which we have worked hard to develop over recent years. This combines decades of industry expertise with a market-leading service offering to ensure performance-critical infrastructure operates effectively and safely throughout its working life.”
Old Oak Common is set to be one of the UK’s busiest rail hubs – linking HS2 with the Elizabeth Line and National Rail services. The HS2 doorsets will play a vital role in ensuring passenger safety, fire integrity, and secure access control in one of the UK’s most high-profile transportation environments. Manufactured at Booth’s Bolton facility, the doors are designed to withstand a multitude of performance requirements and require robust construction to ensure they meet the design life of the station and provide on-going protection.
Austen Adams, Divisional Director of Avingtrans, said:
“The team recently developed a new range of market-leading doorsets that offer unparalleled fire performance of more than four hours. The lessons learned from this innovation helped inform the designs for the new HS2 contract, and underscore our commitment to investing in people, plant and process to position Booth as the specialist provider for high-integrity doorsets around the world.”
