Booth’s Tunnel Vision Goes On

Booth Industries International Ltd. are pleased to continue cementing their reputation as the number one cross passage and tunnel door supplier, with works nearing completion in the Woolwich Arsenal tunnel, of 6 x double acting pressure resistant fire doors.

Due to the pressures acting on the existing doors, and the demands of the harsh environment, the existing doors were in a very poor state, and were no longer found to be offering the protection as required by the cross passages.  As a result, Booth were brought in to carry out a survey, with a view to carrying out the design, manufacture & installation of replacement doorsets.  However, the replacement doorsets had to be of a more robust and enhanced design, to avoid them failing in the same way as the existing doorsets, which had been bought in from elsewhere a few years before.

Using our experience & expertise in the delivery of such projects, we were able to conceive a suitable design using existing IP, and use our connections with local testing houses to agree an assessment on the design to provide the necessary fire assurance & certification, without having to undergo physical testing, thereby saving cost & time for the client due to the urgent nature of the door replacement.

As is quite often the case when working in tunnels & cross passages, challenges were presented which meant working with the client to overcome them quickly and safely.  The majority of the installation work was carried out over one weekend during a planned shutdown, with the remainder of the work scheduled to be completed soon.
