Booth Industries Ltd, part of Redhall Manufacturing, which specialises in the design, fabrication and installation of blast resistant, fire resistant and acoustic doors as well as windows and blast relief panels, has been awarded two high profile offshore contracts.
The largest of the contracts, at £4.9 million, is for the supply of stainless steel blast and fire rated walls, doors and windows for the new BP Clair Ridge platforms. Booth also supplied blast and fire rated walls and doors to the original Clair phase 1 platform in 2004.
Booth will supply over 100 high integrity stainless steel blast and fire rated, gas-tight doors, incorporating features such as monitoring switches, speed regulators, electromagnetic hold open and a facility for emergency escape, even when secured externally. Booth’s high integrity fire and blast resistant doors have been supplied to offshore platforms worldwide for over 30 years and are designed to provide a long service life in harsh conditions with minimal maintenance.
Booth will supply almost 7,500m² of stainless steel wind walls, louvers and fire and blast rated wall systems from its facility in Bolton, UK. Booth will supervise the entire fabrication process to ensure that the highest safety, quality and environmental performance standards are maintained.
The second contract was awarded by Kvaerner Stord AS in Norway for the design and supply of a 90 metre long fire and blast rated escape tunnel for the new Lundin Norway AS Edvard Grieg platform in the Norwegian sector of the North Sea.
Booth Industries will fabricate the escape tunnel in duplex stainless steel, which will span structurally up to 12 metres between platform supports under blast loads up to 0.4 Bar. The tunnel will be designed to withstand a H60 hydrocarbon fire and will be supplied complete with flexible joints, internal lining panels and electrical penetrations.
The tunnel has to fit within tight dimensional constraints due to the presence of an adjacent jack up drilling rig, whilst maintaining the specified internal clear opening dimensions to facilitate emergency escape. The structural design of the tunnel sections and their performance under blast will be verified using non-linear finite element analysis.
This contract award follows the design and supply of a similar 200 metre long 3 Bar blast rated escape tunnel for the Norwegian BP Skarv facility in 2009.
